Colorado Peaks and Canyons

Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Mesa Verde, Great Sand Dunes, Silverton, Durango, CO. A one week national parks adventure offered June. Features camping, hiking, swimming, rafting, wildlife, train rides, scenic boat rides.
This trip is good for all physical levels/abilities.

Day 1

Depart Salt Lake City 2:30 PM…

We start this fantastic trip by picking up you and your fellow Adventurers in Salt Lake City.
We’ll prep you for your adventure and then enjoy a comfortable journey to our first national park…

Day 2

Black Canyon of the Gunnison

We’ll gaze into this incredibly rugged and narrow canyon from the many hikes along the South Rim, or descend into the canyon a bit on the Oaks Flat Trail. We’ll continue on to camp near our next destination…..

Day 3

Curecanti National Recreation Area

We’ll get a view from the bottom of the Black Canyon as we hike the Pine Creek Trail and then hop on a pontoon boat ride through the upper Black Canyon. Later, we’ll hike to the Dillon Pinnacles and soak in some hot spring fed pools!

Day 4

Great Sand Dunes National Park

Sand dunes, mountains, and wetlands. This park has it all! After playing about on the dunes, we’ll cool off on an alpine hike into the shaded aspen groves, or hike to near by Zapata Falls! Perhaps we’ll end the day with a soak in some hot springs under the stars?

Day 5

Durango, Colorado

Spend the day exploring this historic bustling western town, or we’ll help arrange for a half day of white water rafting, kayaking, mt biking, horseback riding, and more!

Day 6

Durango- Silverton Train

We’ll start at 6500 feet in Durango, then hop on the train for a stunning ride along the Animas River in Silverton, almost 3,000 feet higher! You’ll feel as though you’ve gone back a century in time when you step off the train in this old victorian mining town nestled in the San Juan Mountains.

Day 7

Mesa Verde National Park

Journey into some of the best preserved ruins in the world! Ranger guided tours of Cliff Palace and Balcony House will transport us into another time with a glimpse into the culture and traditions of the Ancestral Pueblans and the mystery of their disappearance. A short hike will take us to Spruce Tree House and some petroglyphs.

Day 8

We’ll roll back into Salt Lake City by noon, exchange emails and addresses, and say our goodbyes. We’ll assist you with your shuttle ride to the airport, or suggest sites to see if you are staying in Salt Lake City for an extra day.

Departs and returns to Salt Lake City.

Transportation

This tour features our unique Adventure Bus sleeper coach.

Accommodations

This tour features tent camping and bus bunking. We’ll provide the tents and sleeping pads. You’ll need to rent or bring a sleeping bag. Contact us for helpful hints on accommodations and flights before and after your tour.

Weather

Warm to hot days and cool to chilly nights are typical in the on this tour. Nights at the higher elevations of Bryce and Grand Canyon can be chilly.

Food

Our meals are geared to provide you with the fuel you need to get through your active days, and yet still extremely tasty. We can accommodate all dietary needs.

Hikes & Difficulty

This is a lighter hiking tour that features a lot of extra activities such as the Durango-Silverton Train, scenic boat tour of Currecanti, and guided tours of the ruins at Mesa Verde.
